Let your taste buds take a spa day and enjoy this smoothie whenever you are feeling like you need a healthy dose of detox. That's probably most of us come the New Year ;) In our recent post 'Detox Pathways' we discuss in depth the six pathways your liver uses to clear toxins from your body. Each pathway is designed to utilize different nutrients that help support its efforts to detox our bodies daily. How amazing is it that if we give our bodies the proper nutrients they will do the dirty work for us!

We created this smoothie recipe to do just that, it contains the the best foods to support your bodies natural ability to detox while leaving you satisfied + enjoying each sip! To support your liver we've included; leafy greens, limonene (citrus peel), undenatured grass-fed whey protein and avocado. To support the colon we've included; ginger and mineral rich salt. While the coconut water provides much needed electrolytes to help hydrate!
Recipe (serves 1)
1/2 cup organic frozen or fresh spinach (always use organic when it comes to leafy greens!)
1/4 organic avocado
1/2 small peeled + chopped organic cucumber
1/2 Tbsp freshly chopped ginger*
1 cup organic coconut water
1/2 tsp vanilla
Pinch of mineral rich salt
1/2 tsp grated organic lemon peel
+ if you really want to cleanse we love this green powder
*Keep in mind this smoothie is a bit spicy because of the ginger, if you are making for yourself + littles you can always hold the ginger for their sometimes picky tastebuds.
Blend all ingredients on high for a few minutes until smoothie is completely smooth and has a beautiful green hue. Serve over 3-4 ice cubes + enjoy!
We'd also like to remind you that a little bit of aerobic exercise daily is beneficial to everyone and is especially important during detoxification. Moving your body daily helps circulate blood, moves lymphatic fluid and helps your digestive track eliminate waste. Make sure your exercise is gentle yet effective whenever you are detoxing. This means walking on an incline, swimming, biking and dancing to name a few ;) We recommend enjoying this smoothie immediately after your aerobic activity of choice or as an afternoon pick me up (much better then coffee!).
